Monterey, CA – The Ministerial Alliance of the Monterey Peninsula has announced its endorsement of Sheriff Mike Kanalakis for re-election.

“The Ministerial Alliance unanimously endorses Sheriff Mike Kanalakis for re-election. Mike has shown great concern for the wellbeing of the youth in our community by supporting intervention after-school programs to keep kids focused on positive life alternatives. He is a good friend of the Alliance and of mankind,” said Reverend Herbert Lusk, of the Ministerial Alliance.

Sheriff Kanalakis has been a strong supporter of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids California, a nonprofit, anti-crime organization that works to advance after-school programs and intensive interventions for juvenile offenders to keep kids involved in positive activities and out of crime.

“The endorsement of the Ministerial Alliance means a great deal to me. We share a common vision to protect our children and families by focusing on preventative programs that build solid fundamental values through the ministry,” said Kanalakis. “As a community, we must be smart on spending and make meaningful investments in early interventions that have been proven to stop juvenile crime before it starts.”

Monterey, CA – The National Latino Peace Officers’ Association, the largest Latino law enforcement organization in the United States, has endorsed Sheriff Mike Kanalakis for re-election.

“Sheriff Kanalakis’ crime fighting accomplishments are numerous and his ability to reach out to the community is laudable. He has proven to be an effective leader and subscribe to the highest ethical standards,” said Hank Aguilar, California Chairperson of the National Latino Peace Officers’ Association.

“The NLPOA is driven by a mission to encourage and inspire others, a commitment that is shared by Sheriff Kanalakis and his law enforcement initiatives. We are confident in his ability to keep the residents of Monterey County safe and protected,” said Ruben Sanchez, President of the NLPOA Monterey County Chapter.

“This endorsement from the National Latino Peace Officers’ Association means a great deal to me. As Sheriff, I have promoted outreach to all communities to encourage the peace and safety for everyone in Monterey County. I strongly believe in the NLPOA’s cornerstone values of equality and professionalism in law enforcement,” said Kanalakis.

Sheriff Kanalakis’ results include responsible budgeting and the many subsequent beneficial programs that have been established and continued under his leadership – notably the acquisition of $7.5 million in grants for the countywide Gang Task Force. Since its implementation in 2005, the GTF has made over 2,800 arrests, conducted over 5,000 probation and parole searches and seized over 200 illegal firearms.

The National Latino Peace Officers’ Association is committed to protecting our communities, promoting equality and professionalism in law enforcement, and honoring family, education, and community through service and mentorship. NLPOA membership includes chiefs of police, sheriffs, police officers, parole agents and federal officers.

Monterey, CA – The California Peace Officers’ Association has endorsed Sheriff Mike Kanalakis for re-election. The vote – by the largest professional law enforcement organization in the state – was overwhelming.

“Sheriff Kanalakis has proven his commitment to providing sophisticated equipment, training and career development resources to law enforcement in Monterey County. He has accomplished a great deal as Sheriff and led the County to remarkable results. The CPOA Board unanimously supports the continuation of that progress,” said John Standish, President of the California Peace Officers’ Association.

“I’m honored to have received this key endorsement from the California Peace Officers’ Association. It’s deeply rewarding to know that the CPOA has the confidence in me to continue my work as Sheriff of Monterey County,” said Kanalakis.

The California Peace Officers’ Association represents the totality of the law enforcement profession. The 3,400-member body includes sheriffs, chiefs of police, command staff at the local, state and federal levels, as well as rank and file officers.

Eight years ago, I had a plan for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. I am pleased to tell you that despite tough budget times, your Sheriff’s Office has been able to endure and adapt to the changing economic climate.

Despite a steady decline in staffing, we have been able to move forward and leverage state and federal dollars to accomplish good things.

Despite a catastrophic downturn in the economy we have endured and have been able to provide quality public safety services with the help of our allied agencies and community partners.

But we still have a long way to go. Together with your help and my leadership the Sheriff’s Office will continue to be a valued community asset and vital public safety resource for our entire county.

With economic hardships and crime as our foremost challenges, I offer the proven experience and leadership necessary to guide us through these difficult times.

Together, we can continue to make a positive difference for the County of Monterey.
